About making certificates
The preview is the certificate: what you see is what the PDF contains, so there is no need to download one to find out whether the wording fits. Templates differ in more than colour — the frame, the seal, the heading and the default wording all change — so it is worth clicking through a few before settling. The thirty are grouped by occasion — academic and training, attendance and safety, workplace and long service, appreciation, sport and competition, and a set chosen for design alone. Signature blocks are optional and take a name and a title.
Wording follows a convention worth knowing. A certificate of participation records attendance and needs no assessment; one of completion asserts that a course was finished; one of achievement or excellence implies a standard was met and is the one to reserve. Presented to and awarded to carry slightly different weight, the second implying merit. The output is a landscape A4 page, which prints without scaling on A4 and very nearly fills US Letter.
Common questions
- Is there a watermark or a signup?
- Neither. The PDF you download is the finished certificate with nothing added, and there is no account to create. The certificate is generated in your browser, which is also why it can be free: there is no server rendering it and therefore nothing to pay for or to sign up to.
- What size does it print at?
- A landscape A4 page, which prints without scaling on A4 paper and very nearly fills US Letter with a slightly larger margin. Print at 100% or "actual size" rather than "fit to page", which some drivers apply by default and which shrinks the design slightly inside the paper.
- What should a certificate of participation say?
- Participation records attendance rather than a standard reached, so the conventional wording is neutral: "This is to certify that [name] has participated in [event]", with the date and the organisation beneath. Reserve achievement or excellence for cases where something was actually assessed, and use completion when a course was finished.
- Can I use these certificates commercially?
- Yes. The certificates you generate are yours to use for courses, workshops, employee recognition or anything else, with no attribution required. The templates are part of this tool rather than licensed stock, so there is no third-party condition attached to what you produce.
